There are 2 Westalee Day Classes to choose from - the Starter Day and the Follow On class

Westalee Ruler Starter Day

Full Day Class - £49.50

No current dates available

Westalee Rulers can help to transform your Free Motion Quilting by enabling you to undertake free motion quilting in a controlled way on your domestic sewing machine.  Using the rulers will help you to stitch a large range of beautiful patterns and designs to complement your quilts.

I know that using a new product can be a bit intimidating, so this class is designed to help you get the most from your Westalee Rulers by providing hands on advice, guidance and encouragement.  Several elements will be covered on this interactive day including, attaching the Westalee foot and setting the height correctly, holding and using the standard ruler to good effect and using ruler markings.

There will be plenty of hands on practice and you will make two sample blocks to showcase the skills learnt on the day.

Please Note:

To attend this class you MUST have the appropriate ruler foot for your machine (Westalee, Bernina , Janome),

Westalee 12’’ Arc Ruler, Westalee Spacing Gauge and an extension table for your machine.

Westalee Ruler Feet and Rulers can be purchased from the Cotton Patch in the UK, where you will find a very useful ebook to help you to work out which is the correct version for your machine. Any query regarding the type of foot needed please contact Jayne on 0121 702 2840 or at and she will be happy to help.

Cotton Patch can also supply a range of sizes of Sew Steady Table extension tables for most makes and models of machines. These are made to order and imported from the USA and so can take up to 8 to 10 weeks to be delivered. Please bear this in mind if you need to order a table prior to attending this introduction day.

Westalee Rulers Follow on Day

Full Day Class - £49.50

No date currently available

Please note: You can only book this class if you have already attended the Westalee Ruler Starter Day.

Learning how to use Westalee Rulers is the first step on a journey to beautiful quilting.  Whether you are working on Quilt as You Go blocks or a bigger quilt project getting the finishing touches right is important.

However, when it comes to applying the knowledge gained on the Westalee Ruler starter day to your latest project, it can be a bit scary.  Especially when using rulers on a pieced block or quilt for the first time or combining Westalee Ruler work and Free Motion designs.

It is only with practice and encouragement that you get to know which designs work well and help you achieve the results you desire.  So, by request I have developed this Westalee Follow-on day to give you that additional support.

I have also designed a follow-on day for general Free Motion Quilting work which aligns closely with this technique.

For more information please go to FMQ Follow-On Page.

On the day you will refresh the basic principles for ruler work, look at design elements in pieced blocks, and take those first steps towards quilting designs with rulers onto your chosen project.

Full details will be sent on booking, but you will need to bring:

  • Your sewing machine with extension table and the Westalee Ruler Foot and Starter set

  • A practice quilt sandwich with low loft wadding – calico or similar will be fine

  • 3 or 4 pieced blocks (12’’–15’’ is a good size) made into sandwiches with low loft wadding that you will work on

  • Optional: A quilt top or other blocks to discuss quilting designs
