Frequently Asked Questions

01

What do I need to bring to class with me?

Specific information will be sent to you with your booking confirmation however the general requirements for all classes are as follows:

  • Basic sewing kit including small scissors, needles, pins, sewing thread
  • Sewing machine in good working order with ¼” foot, walking foot and spare bobbins
  • Rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat (I suggest 18” x 24” or 12” x 18”) sets are  available from The Cotton Patch (ref 9097) www.cottonpatch.co.uk
  • Notebook, pen and pencil, digital camera if available

02

As I have an old sewing machine will it be suitable for the class or course I wish to book?

Sewing machines that have not been used for some time or are more than 10 years old should be serviced before attending the course to ensure they are in good working order.  Your local sewing machine shop or The Cotton Patch can advise you but generally you should allow up to 2 weeks for its return.

03

Does my sewing machine need to have any special attachments?

A ¼” foot and a walking foot are essential for undertaking machine patchwork and quilting. These feet will not have come as standard with your sewing machine unless specifically stated so you are advised to check before attending a class.  Branded feet are generally available to buy individually from your local sewing machine shop or universal feet are available from The Cotton Patch and are suitable for many machines.

04

Should I bring my own fabric?  If so how much will I need?

Unless stated in the class description you will need to bring your own fabrics.  You will receive details of the quantities needed with your class or course confirmation.
