Choosing fabrics can be tricky  especially when you want a good range of colours in small pieces. Ombre fabric is a textile where the color gradually transitions from one shade to another, creating a smooth gradient effect, often going from dark to light; the word "ombre" itself comes from French and means "shaded" making it essentially a fabric with a shaded color transition across its surface.  This makes it a perfect choice for this vibrant and versatile quilt which can be used as a lap quilt, tablecover, playmat and more.  Using simple piecing and applique means you get the most from your fabrics.  But of course if you have a large stash then this is also a perfect way to use some of those smaller pieces.
