On our trip to the American Quilt Museum last year, we learnt that quilters used to get together for a frolic where they would sit and sew in companionship. Often there would be eight stitchers around a single quilt. Whilst we are more used to these being called a Quilting Bee, we were told that they were often Quilting Frolics. These were social events for women, and during the day they might also cook while they quilted or bring food to the event.
‘’He came clattering up to the school door, with an invitation to Ichabod to attend a merry-making or “quilting frolic,” to be held that evening at Mynheer Van Tassel’s’’. An extract from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving
In keeping with this tradition, I will be holding my own 3-day frolic from 18th to 20th June. The number of places available will be strictly limited, so to be fair to everyone you must contact me by email only if you wish to book a place. Places will then be allocated in order according to the date/time of receipt of all the emails received and a Non-Refundable deposit of £45 will then be required to confirm your booking.
Once the allocation is full, any further requests will be placed on a reserve list in case a space becomes available at a later date.
